How To Frame A 3D Object
Using a 3d box picture frame, with an uncut back mount, front mount with 10mm border and spacer frame with colour matched lining.
1. Clean the glass, using a pump action glass cleaner (aerosols cause static), kitchen paper, and a lint free duster, place into the mainframe set aside to dry.
2. Securely attach the 3D object to the uncut back mount, with invisible thread, glue, clear silicone, blue tack, double sided tape/foam, or screws/nut & bolt. The method used very much depends on the weight and type of object being framed.
3. Fix the uncut back mount and mdf to the spacer frame, with a heavy-duty staple gun or small tacks, being careful that the staple/tack does not come through the in/out side of the spacer frame.
4a. Place the glass, front mount and spacer frame into the main frame, fix into place with screws though the fixing clips, being careful the screws do not come through the face of the frame.
4b. Or fold small pieces of brown sticky tape to wedge the two frames together and use small amounts of wood glue to fix both frames together, being careful the glue does not bleed through to the front of the mount or the glass.
5. Cut 2 short & 2 long lengths of brown sticky tape, working on newspaper, start with the top edge, wet the sticky tape (do not over wet), and stick down onto the main frame, smooth up the side of the spacer frame and over the top onto the mdf back board to cover the staples.
6. Using a scalpel blade or a scissors cut into the two ‘corners’ of the sticky tape. Tuck the side ‘tab’ around the corner onto the spacer frame, and bring the top tab from the mdf backboard down the side of the spacer frame. Repeat on the bottom edge, then on both sides.
7. Measure approximately one third of the height of the frame from the top, use a bradawl to make a small hole in the back of the frame, and screw in a suitable size screw eye/’D’ ring, being careful not to come through the front face of the frame. Thread good quality nylon cord through the screw eyes/’D’ rings and tie of with a reef knot.
